Nora's Journal

GLP-1, Protein, and the
stuff nobody warns you about.

Nora's Perspective

Nora's perspective — not medical advice.

GLP-1 have changed a lot of lives, and the results speak for themselves — that's not in question. But most of what gets said about them stops at the scale. Less gets said about what's actually happening day to day: appetite dropping off a cliff, food starting to feel like a chore, and nobody quite explaining what that means for the rest of your body.

Here's the part that surprised me. Eating less isn't just eating less — it's eating less of everything, protein included. And protein is one of the key things that can help your body hold onto muscle while it's losing weight. Nobody warns you about that trade-off going in. I only noticed it once I was tired all the time and wondering why.

So this is where I get into it properly — not GLP-1 as a whole, there's plenty written about that. This is about the bit that gets skipped: how appetite changes on GLP-1 actually affect your nutrition, why protein specifically needs more attention than it gets, and what's realistic to do about it when eating enough already feels hard.

Some of what I share here is personal — what's worked for me, what hasn't. Some of it's more practical: easy ways to get protein in, questions worth raising with your prescriber, and what a "good" appetite day versus a hard one actually looks like.

I'm not a doctor, and none of this is medical advice or a substitute for speaking with your prescriber about your treatment. But I think there's room for a plainer conversation about the nutrition side of GLP-1 — so that's what this is.
